ABC’s STEP Safety Management System and Accredited Quality Contractor program qualify members as Top Performers.

ABC’s Top Performers are contractor members that achieved ABC STEP Gold status or higher (based on 2021 safety data) and earned ABC’s AQC credential in 2022. ABC member companies are ranked No. 1 to 250— up from 200 in 2022—based on work hours reported on their 2022 STEP applications. Additional lists identify the Top General Contractors, Top Trade Contractors, Top Electrical Contractors, Top Plumbing/ HVAC Contractors, Top Specialty Contractors, and Top Performers by Market. Companies are recognized for National Excellence in Construction,® National Safety Excellence, and National Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Excellence awards received in 2022.
The Top Performers With Special Designations list highlights ABC contractor members that achieved STEP Gold status or higher in 2022 and hold one or more special designations, ranked by work hours.
Top Performers had zero safety-related fatalities during the review period, Jan. 1-Nov. 1, 2022.
The Criteria
ABC STEP members certify that:
STEP Diamond members are an average of 688% safer than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average, according to the ABC 2023 Safety Performance Report.* STEP Platinum members are 278% safer, and Gold members are 183% safer.
ABC members that have earned the Accredited Quality Contractor credential certify their commitment to:
insurable to deliver the work they pursue;
STEP Gold, Platinum, or Diamond status;
and inclusion, diversity, and equity; and
they work.
AQC members must provide awards, certificates, or letters of acknowledgment testifying to project excellence during the last five years and letters of recommendation from a combination of clients/owners, general contractors, construction managers, architects, subcontractors, and suppliers/vendors.
